Virtual Event: Winning Transit Funding in Pennsylvania to Power a Just Recovery

Pennsylvania’s public transit agencies are facing a funding emergency unlike any that’s come before, with two intertwined crises unfolding at the federal level and the state.

But it’s not too late to do something about it, and this month we’ll have a chance to learn about what’s happening, what’s at stake, and what actions we all can take so that fast, frequent, and reliable public transportation is at the center of the Philadelphia region’s economic recovery.

Join us for a lunchtime virtual forum, titled 'Winning Transit Funding in Pennsylvania to Power a Just Recovery', on November 30th from 11:30 AM-12:30 PM featuring Pennsylvania transportation leaders and elected officials including SEPTA General Manager Leslie Richards, Deputy Secretary Jennie Granger of PennDOT, Congressmember Dwight Evans, and Rep. Stephen Kinsey of the House Transportation Committee.

Register on Zoom

The forum will be moderated by Patricia Madej, transportation reporter at the Philadelphia Inquirer, and hosted by the Transit Forward Philadelphia coalition and 5th Square.

Tune in on November 30th from 11:30-12:30 to learn from transportation leaders and decision-makers about how COVID-19 has affected their agencies, what’s happened so far in Washington and Harrisburg to fix the problem, and what is needed going forward to secure public transit’s future in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

This event has been organized in coordination with the National Campaign for Transit Justice, a coalition of national and local organizations pushing for federal transit funding by centering the needs and priorities of local riders and transit agencies. This coalition of 15+ transit regions is organized and supported by the Alliance for a Just Society, the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), and Transit Center in coordination with the Bloomberg Philanthropies American Cities Climate Challenge. The Climate Challenge is an unprecedented opportunity for 25 ambitious cities to significantly deepen and accelerate their efforts to tackle climate change and promote a sustainable future for their residents.

Please submit questions for consideration by email to [email protected] by November 27th.
