Transit Forward Philly is reactivating its student fare coalition to research and organize for universal student fares. Students should be able to access jobs and other opportunities over the summer, on weekends, and after school regardless of their geography.
-
Research:
- Explore how Philadelphia’s peer cities approach student fares.
-
Work with SEPTA and the School District of Philadelphia (SDP) to determine the cost of changing:
-
When student fare cards work
- Weekends
- Summer
- After school
- Different geographic distances from school
-
When student fare cards work
- Determine the increased cost of universal student fare cards and identify legislation that could fund this benefit.
-
Advocacy:
- Conduct focus groups and outreach conversations with students, families, and summer and after school programs to understand qualitative perspectives on universal student fare cards.
- Collect stories and produce social media, letters to the editor, and other content from stakeholders that would benefit from this policy.
